he central pillars of Web3 — decentralization and ownership — offer users transparency and equity. It's helping creators overcome the challenges of collaboration and changing the future of work. By transferring the balance of power from centralized entities to end users, Web3 is disrupting industries and ushering in a new era of the 'creator economy.'

In Web3, an ecosystem not reliant on intermediaries, creators have renewed control of how they develop their work, manage and monetize it, and work directly with their communities. Centralized platforms have always had the upper hand when working with creators, gatekeeping and controlling their businesses. But in Web3, artists can finally regain control of their work, the rights to their work and their businesses.

Web3 is Paving the Way to Better Collaboration

Web3 is also changing the way people collaborate. Artists are inspired by true collaboration in this environment where ideas, skills, and resources are distributed and more flexible than in centralized systems. Collaboration is a true joint effort in Web3, and mutual interest is valuable equity.

Although collaboration existed in Web2, it often did so without trust or community — that's the big difference in Web3. Without the need for third-party facilities, individuals are more empowered. Web3 is building a more human-centric, better connected and more distributed web.

Another driving force behind Web3 is automation. AI and blockchain are a heady combination that will remove superficial, menial tasks from the end users' to-do lists, giving them more opportunities to create and be more productive.

Web3 is changing the way we view the workplace. It's no longer an office or a hybrid workspace; it's specifically managed tasks. As businesses transition to Web3, they have to know how to give individuals more autonomy and the freedom to create in the new digital workplace.

Web3 and the Future of Online Activism

A critical focus of Web3 is the community; in that sense, there’s already a significant overlap between this tech infrastructure and online activism.

So far, one of the main ways Web3 has influenced activism is fundraising through NFT art. The project called ‘Minting a Glacier,’ for instance, lets you buy a picture of an original photograph of a glacier in Switzerland and 85% of all profits from minting and re-sell go towards capturing carbon dioxide. The project aims to help artists, environmentalists and activists.

There are similar NFT projects that democratize access to digital art and, in turn, online communities — through their purchasing power — raise the value of the art as well as awareness of the core issue.

While NFTs are a powerful conduit between artists, activists and online communities, Web3 can unleash a slew of benefits for online activists.

10 benefits of Web3 for online activism:

  1. The speed at which activists can raise funds in Web3 from across the globe — due to no cross-border intermediaries is unmatched.
  2. Share pictures of NFTs to raise awareness across channels and platforms.
  3. Use Web3 badges to show your passion for a cause and your work to tackle the issue.
  4. Generate more money from the secondary sales of digital artworks through royalties.
  5. Gamify and #IncentivizeActivism and mobilize a larger community to take action.
  6. Help activists — whose lives may be in danger — to remain anonymous while creating immutable records of their work (e.g., a video/photo from a war zone) through #blockchain.
  7. Allow seamless collaboration between different activists and grassroots organizations openly and transparently.
  8. Remain anonymous with protocols like #ZeroTrust — this has powerful implications in a post-Roe V. Wade world, where women are less willing to give away information through period trackers or even shopping habits.
  9. Make collective decisions openly through DAO governance tokens.
  10. Utilize the community-driven aspect of Web3 to throw light on important initiatives, empower digital communities to champion those issues and gain added momentum to make a greater impact.

How Brands Can Utilize Web3 to Build a More Inclusive Workplace

Business leaders know the strong correlation between diversity and workplace innovation. They recognize that by bringing together people of diverse ages, genders, races, and cultures, as well as cognitive behaviors, thinking and work styles, and creating an inclusive work environment they can build high-performing teams.

However, the crowning achievement of diversity, equity, and inclusion is not simply hiring people of different backgrounds and abilities. It’s creating a work culture where everyone feels included and is free to share their ideas and debate their views without fear of being ostracized.

Web3 can play a pivotal role in nurturing this open culture where employees are empowered, participate in decision-making, voice their opinions freely, and get credited for their contributions. As it matures, Web3 will continue to help DEI managers bring together people of different perspectives in an open atmosphere, free of biases, making room for a rich exchange of ideas and innovations.

Web3 is a collection of tools, technologies and, yes, even outlooks that promotes democratization through decentralization. It helps build digital assets where people don’t just participate but own their creations in the shared digital experience.

When governance, infrastructure, and work are decentralized, employees can contribute and be rewarded for their work. This new evolution of the web is all about empowering individuals and communities instead of centralized entities.

Inclusivity, equity and democratization go hand-in-hand in building more secure and resilient companies. It also reduces censorship and peer-to-peer exchanges. This is a paradigm shift — Web3 can potentially make employees true stakeholders, both as creators who own their digital assets and participants who are empowered to do their best work.
